The Aircast Ankle Cryo/Cuff combines the therapeutic benefits of controlled compression and cold to minimise hemarthrosis and swelling and reduce pain. The cuff is anatomically designed to completely fit the ankle for optimum treatment. Please be aware that this will only work when brought with the aircast cryo/cuff cooler.

After a twist, turn, arthroscopy, minor or major surgery the Aircast Cryo Cuff for the Ankle is the ideal rehabillitation tool. The cuff is anatomically designed to completely fit the foot and ankle providing maxium coverage of the whole joint and allowing the whole surface area to have the continual cooling benefit of cryotherapy.

After an injury blood vessels are damaged and this allows blood cells and fluid to seep into spaces around the joint, resulting in swelling and bruising. When ice is applied the temperature decreases and constricts local blood vessels, slowing metabolism and decreasing fluid build-up. Ice can also numb nerve endings, reducing the transfer of impulses to the brain that register as pain. The Cryo/Cuff System reduces the need for multiple ice packs in the freezer and is great for medium to long term use.

The cuff needs attaching to the Gravity Aircast Cryo Cuff Cooler or the Intermittant Powered Cooler and will hold water and ice needed for six to eight hours of cryotherapy. The durable cooler comes with a tube assembly and insulation disk and simple-to-follow directions for use. Many hospitals use the cryocuff system and will send you home with the single patient use cuff which is why we offer the cooler on its own.

The difference between the gravity cooler and the powered cooler is that the the powered cooler has a lid with an air compressor. Once the cuff is filled the compressor will create a 30 second on/off cycle offering Intermittent Compression (IC) and create a massage effect over the affected limb. This can aid in the reduction of pain, removal of swelling and increase circulation to aid in the speed of receovery. Any gravity coolers can be upgraded but the IC lid and power supply will both be required.

TOP TIP for using the CryoCuff System

Get a couple of large yogurt or margarine tubs and fill 2/3 full and place in the freezer to use as ice blocks. These block will cool the water and remain for hours so will last for several refreshes of the water in the cuff and save you constantly making ice cubes!

The cuff does not provide tight or adjustable compression; it will feel slightly more snug when filled with water, but it is not designed to give a tight-to-loose compression effect. The temperature of the water inside the cuff is not actively controlled by either the cuff or the cooler. Both components are insulated to slow the natural warming of the water. If the ambient room temperature is high, the water in the cuff may warm more quickly. Once the water has lost its cooling effect, it needs to be manually recirculated through the cooler to allow fresher, cooler water to flow into the cuff. Please note: this applies to the gravity-fed cooler only, as the powered cooler actively circulates the water.
