What is Aircast Cryo Cuff Cooler, IC Lid, Pump, Power Set?

Cryo Cuff's latest new feature is called the IC Lid and it features an integrated pneumatic pump within the lid, which provides a 45-second on / 30-second off cycle of automated compression and cold therapy. It is very easy to operate but does require power. The IC Cooler and accessories are universal to all Cryo Cuff and ArticFlow wraps, the cryo cuff cooler holds water and ice needed for six to eight hours of cryotherapy. The durable cooler comes with a tube assembly and insulation disk and is labelled with simple-to-follow directions for use. All of the items are available individually but we have combined them to make a full set, all you need now is the Cryo Cuff Wrap of your choice.

When do I need an Aircast Cryo Cuff Cooler, IC Lid, Pump, Power Set?

Cryotherapy (cold therapy) is used to reduce swelling and bruising and can hugely reduce recovery and rehabilitation time following injury or post-operative. Ideally used in conjunction with slight compression (with a tubular bandage) and elevation of the limb to withdraw swelling from the area (RICE - Rest - Ice - Compression and Elevation for soft tissue injuries).

After an injury, blood vessels are damaged, allowing blood cells and fluid to seep into spaces around the joint, resulting in swelling and bruising. When ice is applied the temperature decreases and constricts local blood vessels, slowing metabolism and decreasing fluid build-up, ice can also numb nerve endings, reducing the transfer of impulses to the brain that register as pain. The Cryo Cuff System reduces the need for multiple ice packs in the freezer and is great for medium to long-term use.

Many surgeries for ankles, knees and shoulders in particular apply a cryo cuff immediately after surgery to assist with pain relief and swelling. As the cuffs are single-use only many patients get sent home with the cuff and no cooler. Ask your surgeon if this is the case and have a cooler waiting for you at home to continue the cryotherapy recommended by top consultants. The cooler is available as gravity-fed or with the integrated pneumatic IC lid. The standard gravity cooler can be converted to the pumped one with the IC Lid and power supply.

What is the benefit of the Aircast Cryo Cuff Cooler, IC Lid, Pump, Power Set?

The pneumatic IC lid does offer a greater level of compression than the standard "gravity-fed" cooler system. The "wave" effect of the compression having 45 seconds of pumping and then 30 seconds of release really benefits an area in recovery. The cold prevents swelling from collecting in the area and offers a level of pain relief while the intermittent compression stimulates blood flow, removing and swelling and increasing the blood circulating for healing and recovery.
