The Moody Cows Rugby 7s Triumph In Dubai

We would like to say a HUGE congratulations to the Moody Cows who have won the Dubai 7’s Rugby tournament 2013! Not only are they champions but they have also raised over £16,500 for Macmillan in the process. FirstAid4Sport are proud sponsors and are thrilled for the team. The Moody Cows is an invitational women’s rugby 7s team made up of players from women’s clubs across the country including Rosslyn Park, Saracens, Wasps, Richmond and Bristol to name a few. They have players from different parts of the world including Australia, Canada, Sweden, England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. They have entered rugby 7s tournaments in the UK and on the international stage to promote the Moody Cows brand and women’s rugby, as well as raising awareness of Macmillan Cancer Support, there chosen charity that they are affiliated with. Macmillan is a charity close to their hearts as a founding member and fellow rugby player, Kay Booker, sadly lost her battle with breast cancer in July 2009 and used Macmillan throughout her illness. The Moody Cows now play at all their rugby tournaments wearing the famous green logo of Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Kay, the amazing work Macmillan did for Kay and thousands of other families in similar situations. The Moody Cows started their Dubai 7s 2013 campaign with three pool game wins from three on Day 1, soundly beating Moscow Dragons and Norwegian Vikingettes, and a strong win over UK side DSI Predators to set them up for Day 2's pool games. Defeating AUC Wolves in the first game of Day 2, the Cows prepared themselves for a hard match against UK 7s regulars, the Pink BaBas, knowing that this would be a difficult game to win. The Ba-Bas came out firing; however the Moodies were the victors this time, also beating The Mamas in their final pool game of the day. Six wins from six put the Moody Cows at the top of the table so would face the Pink BaBas in the semi-final on Day 3. Knowing they’d beaten all the teams in the previous days’ pool games gave the Cows confidence; however they knew to never under estimate the opposition! The semi-final against the BaBas was a fantastic game to watch, with both sides never giving up until the final whistle was blown. The Moodies came away with the win 31-12, putting them through to the final against DSI Predators. Having been in the final of the Dubai 7s International Open Women division in previous years and not yet coming away with the win was on the minds of many Moody Cows. Nerves were high, but talent, true grit and sheer determination was on their side as they fought their way to win the match 19-5. It was a fantastic display of women's rugby and the Cows should be proud of how they played. They dedicated their win to Kay Pamplin, founding member of the Moody Cows, who died in 2009 and would have loved to have seen the Moodies raise the winner's trophy in cow print. The Moody Cows partied hard that night! FirstAid4Sport are delighted to be able to support the team and their fundraising efforts by supplying the team with all of their first aid equipment. We are delighted and honored to be involved and support such a fantastic charity and club. Well Done girls.
