Moo-ving for Macmillan - Firstaid4sport supporting the Moody Cows
FirstAid4Sport are continuing their support of the Moody Cows rugby 7’s team, as they travel to Dubai for the international 7’s tournament later this month. The Moody Cows is an invitational women’s rugby 7s team made up of players from women’s clubs across the country including Rosslyn Park, Saracens, Wasps, Richmond and Bristol to name a few. They have players from different parts of the world including Australia, Canada, Sweden, England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Originally formed in 2004, the Moody Cows entered the first ever women’s tournament of the Dubai International 7s and they have since gone on to achieve great things both on and off the pitch. They have entered rugby 7s tournaments in the UK and on the international stage to promote the Moody Cows brand and women’s rugby, as well as raising awareness of Macmillan Cancer Support, there chosen charity that they are affiliated with. Macmillan is a charity close to our hearts as our founding member and fellow rugby player, Kay Booker, sadly lost her battle with breast cancer in July 2009 and used Macmillan throughout her illness. The Moody Cows now play at all their rugby tournaments wearing the famous green logo of Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Kay, the amazing work Macmillan did for Kay and thousands of other families in similar situations. FirstAid4Sport are delighted to be able to support the team and their fundraising efforts by supplying the team with all of their first aid equipment. Player, Lou Micklewright said “As a squad we go through metres of the zinc oxide tape, taping all the players’ back together ready for the next game. We are huge fans of the cow print K-Tape! It’s great that FirstAid4Sport support us the way that they do. They are first rate. They are always friendly, always approachable and always happy to get involved and help out the squad with our first aid and physio needs.” Not only do the Moody Cows participate in rugby tournaments, but throughout the year the squad takes part in different charity events that are not rugby related in order to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan. They have had players running in both the London and New York Marathon, cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats and back again, completing ‘Tough Guy’ courses and taking part in triathlons and 10k events. To date we have raised over £15,000 for Macmillan in just over 2 years. Rachel Collier from FirstAid4Sport said “it is an honour to be able to sponsor and be a part of what the Moody Cows do. We wish them all the very best of luck in their upcoming Dubai 7’s tournament and for the future.” Dubai 7s is an international invitational 7s and the team have been invited back to play in the tournament again. This tournament is always special for the Moody Cows as it was their first ever tournament that they took part in 2004. In 2011 they got to the final but unfortunately lost by 2 points. Hopefully 2013 will be the year for the Cows!
